The very reliable David Ornstein dropped the exclusive news last night that Nottingham Forest had seen a bid of £25m for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah turned down. Despite Arsenal’s rejection of the current offer, it seems both clubs remain optimistic that a deal can be done with Arsenal holding out for £30/35m to part ways with The Hale End graduate.
It would certainly be sad to see Nketiah go, as he is one of the longest-serving members of the current Arsenal first-team squad. Eddie’s first goal for Arsenal came all the way back in 2017, when he scored within 15 seconds of coming on to send Arsenal level against Norwich in the Carabao Cup.
This led to the famous quote “A lot of people think it only took me 15 seconds to score for Arsenal, but I’ve been working on it my whole life.” I think this certainly serves as a reminder about just how tough it is to make it to the very highest level of the game, but also acts as inspiration to the younger generation that anyone can make it right to the very top.
As mentioned it would be sad to see Eddie go, especially considering the sentimental factor of losing an academy graduate. On the other hand however, Eddie has never really set the world alight at Arsenal, aside from scoring a hatrick last year against Sheffield United he failed to make much of an impact in the in fairness, lack of opportunities he was presented by Mikel Arteta.
It would seem a move away therefore is the best outcome for both parties, with Eddie searching for regular game time at a top flight time and Arsenal able to reinvest pure profit from an academy player elsewhere. I have no doubt that Eddie will score goals wherever he will go, he’s a poacher and does possess that natural instinct for goal scoring.
It certainly remains one to watch within the last 10 days of this years summer transfer window, but should it go through, I’m sure Eddie will receive more than a warm welcome when he returns back to the Emirates for the first time, as an opposition player.
