Arsenal legend Lauren was speaking to BettingExpert ahead of the 2024/25 campaign and says the team is more mature and can compete in every competition.
Lauren: Arsenal’s biggest strength heading into the new season is a more mature squad
“Arsenal´s biggest strength is their squad. Their squad is more mature and the team is on a level where they are able to compete in every competition.”
“Maybe they have to improve in the key games sometimes, but apart from that the team is mature and capable of competing in every competition. I would rather talk about their strengths than weaknesses.”
“As I said, the team is capable of competing in every competition. If we compare with the Arsenal team three or four years ago, they were not in the Champions League, which they are now. They finished 5th in the table (in 2021-22), last year they finished second and this year as well. They just have to try to win as many things as possible.”
“Three key players? I would focus my attention on the squad instead of specific players. The squad knows how to compete and in the pressure moments, I believe that the Arsenal squad has been great this year, despite a few games where you’re looking for perfection.”
“I would go for the whole squad, instead of focusing my attention on players. Obviously, we always want to see the new signings, the way they perform, the way they will gel with the squad. Apart from that, I will stick to focusing on the whole squad.”
Lauren: I don’t think we can question Mikel Arteta – he has improved Arsenal in every single metric
“Since Arteta arrived at the club, there has been a big improvement. The team is mentally ready to compete in every competition and the connection between the fans, the club, and the players has been brilliant.”
“They are playing in the Champions League every season now. Take a look at the numbers. When they finished fifth they had 69 points, last year they finished second with 81 points, and last season they got 89 points. With these kinds of numbers, you usually win the league. But they are competing against a beast, Manchester City. It’s so tough to compete against them.”
“But Arsenal has improved a lot in every single sense, and I don’t think we can ask questions around Mikel Arteta.”
Lauren: Important to start off the new season with a win against the Wolves
“You have to start the season with a win. Always. Winning the first game gives belief and confidence so then you’re looking forward to the next game. It’s very important to get the three points against Wolves.”
“It’s important to start and finish the season well. Always, during the season teams will have some kind of difficulties but you have to start and finish well.”
