Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, with the Spain international already agreeing to personal terms with Mikel Arteta’s side.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Merino and Arsenal in his latest Caught Offside Substack column and reports the Gunners have been closing in on the deal since last week.
Merino reportedly knows that Arsenal manager Arteta wants him in North London, with a contract already in place. All that needs to be done now is for both teams to agree on payment terms for the transfer.
Romano said: “The contract is already agreed. The player said yes. He knows that Mikel Arteta wants him. This is the reality. Arsenal have been closing in on the deal since last week, but they need to agree on the payment structure, payment terms, so a work in progress.”
“He hasn’t been called up for Real Sociedad’s next game because they say that he’s not 100 percent fit, but we know the transfer is behind this story because Mikel Merino has an agreement with Arsenal.”
