In a recent discussion on Premier League Productions, Arsenal legend Ian Wright shared his thoughts on Kai Havertz’s role at the club. Wright was very surprised by Havertz because he thought he would come into the team playing the ‘Granit Xhaka’ role as a number eight.
Wright elaborated, “I was very surprised by Havertz because I thought he would come into that ‘Granit Xhaka’ role to be a number eight. But what you are seeing is, as a centre-forward, he has everything that Mikel Arteta needs.
“He can drop in and link play. He has got a physical presence. He can score goals like we are seeing him score goals. He causes a lot of problems up there.
“When the season started, he was doing a similar thing. Everybody was saying ‘Oh, is he an eight?’ No. He’s a nine-and-a-half or he is a nine. And he plays in there. He makes really good movement.”
Havertz’s versatility and adaptability have allowed him to thrive in a new role at Arsenal and under Mikel Arteta’s guidance, the German international has developed into a key player for the Gunners, contributing significantly to their attacking prowess. As Wright suggests, Havertz’s unique skill set makes him a valuable asset to the team.
