Ben White’s agent has come and hit back at the negative press about his client in recent months.
The Arsenal defender has been in fantastic form this season, regularly being counted on as the starting right-back. Most recently, White scored two great goals to help the Gunners defeat London rivals Chelsea 5-0.
Following the match, White’s agent shared a long post on LinkedIn about the treatment he’s been receiving, particularly from the mainstream media.
Alexander Levack said: “For the past four weeks, Ben has been in the press and media a great deal and in that time with a large percentage of that being negative. Whilst I appreciate that Ben is in the public eye which brings it’s own connotations and leaves you open to criticism, I wanted to make the point that every elite performer, whichever field that may be, is a human being who has the same feeling we all have and experience good and bad.
“No one knows what is actually going on in one’s life so I really believe people should think before making a judgement or criticising these elite performers in public.
“Ben has shown unbelievable robustness and strength throughout this adverse period off the pitch and has blocked out all the noise and has performed incredibly well on the pitch, in a situation where many others could have and would have wilted.
“Ben has an incredible temperament and attitude which allows him the ability to navigate through his working and personal life.
“I suppose the main message is to be kind to people as you do not have the full facts, which in Ben’s case neither Ben nor I wish to vocalize publicly, and do not know what is going on in people’s personal lives, so again please be kind.”
Ben White was included in England’s squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after an impressive season at Arsenal. However, he left the England camp and returned home for personal reasons on November 30, 2022, before the tournament’s conclusion.
His departure was not due to any disciplinary issues or disputes within the squad, as was speculated in some reports. White did not feature in any of England’s three group stage matches, and he was not expected to rejoin the team for the remainder of the tournament.
The Football Association (FA) did not provide a specific reason for his departure, respecting his privacy. Despite his early exit, White’s inclusion in the squad was a testament to his strong performance with Arsenal prior to the World Cup.
Fast forward a year and a half, White still deserves to represent his country, and would get into any side with his consistent performances this season, but if he doesn’t want to play international football, what is the issue?
Speaking about White’s situation, Arsenal legend Lauren shared his thoughts about the 26-year-old: “The only thing I can say about Ben White is that I’m so proud of him. I’ve been a supporter of his ever since he arrived, and I’ve never doubted his quality.
“I honestly don’t mind (White not playing for England), because it means his sole focus is on Arsenal. White not playing for England is only a good thing for Arsenal supporters.
“That was the turning point in his Arsenal career, though, in my opinion… when he decided to leave the national team. That situation made him stronger, I believe. He’s stronger now than the player who was playing for the national team, 100%. He’s stronger than ever, and I love it. I love it.”
