According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Arsenal have offered midfielder Jorginho a brand new contract and he is ‘expected’ to sign it. The 32-year-old has been a vital part of Mikel Arteta’s midfield puzzle since he arrived from Chelsea in January 2023.
The Italy international has played 35 times this campaign for the Gunners and stepped up while Thomas Partey was out for a long period due to injury. A new deal for Jorginho makes sense, given he’s reliable and brings valuable experience to the young Arsenal side.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano was asked about Jorginho on the Here We Go Podcast and said: “All parties believe Jorginho is going to extend his contract at Arsenal, especially Mikel Arteta. He is pushing a lot to make that happen. He is convinced that Jorginho is a really important player with experience in a very young squad a leader like Jorginho is needed. The feeling of Edu is exactly the same.”
Back in February, Mikel Arteta had a lot of praise for Jorginho after a string of impressive performances, saying: “For all the kids at the club, if you want to look at somebody, just look at him. He’s won everything. He’s a really intelligent player, his biggest quality is that he makes the people around him better. He connects everybody.”
