Arsenal will be welcoming fellow Londoners Brentford to the Emirates Stadium this Saturday as they look to keep their outstanding run of form going.
Arsenal’s form in 2024 has seen them overcome every challenge put in front of them in the league so far, with seven wins out of seven, Brentford will be looking to stop that run as they continue to fight for survival in the Premier League.
Earlier in the week, Arsenal paid a visit to Bramall Lane, where they left Yorkshire with three more points and six more goals added to their tally, as they ran riot on a poor Sheffield United side. The Blades haven’t been the only victim to results such as these this year, with The Gunners hitting six against West Ham and putting five past both Crystal Palace and Burnley.
Brentford will be looking to get back to winning ways as they are without a win in their last four league games, however, a promising display last time out against Chelsea may have given them confidence and belief to take on the best of the best. Brentford have been victorious just once in their last nine visits to Arsenal (D4, L4), a 2-0 league win in April 1938.
Team News
Arsenal
The Arsenal have been plagued with injuries across the season so far. Fullbacks Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu are still absent.
However, a return for Jurrien Timber may not be far away with Arteta saying last week that Sheffield United was just too close for him. Still, physios and coaches have been impressed with his attitude during the training sessions that he has taken part in.
During Monday night’s clash, both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli had to be substituted which was a worry for Arsenal fans. However, in Arteta’s post-match press conference, it was confirmed that Saka was feeling slightly ill and Martinelli had a little cut on his foot; so hopefully this means they will be back for the weekend.
Brentford
The Bees also have a host of injuries that they have had to contend with throughout the season. They remain without Bryan Mbeumo, Kevin Schade, Josh Dasilva, Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey, Ethan Pinnock and Ben Mee.
Ones to Watch
Ivan Toney
With Ivan Toney’s season starting later than everybody else due to his ban, he has managed to pick up right where he left off. In eight matches this season, Toney has managed to score four goals and average a match rating of 7.25. The Englishman is without a goal in his last three games, but he will be looking to change that here as he did in 2023, with that being his only goal against Arsenal in three appearances against them.
Yoane Wissa
Arsenal will also need to be wary of the dangerous Yoane Wissa up top for Brentford. Wissa is looking to score in three consecutive Premier League games for the first time in his career. Six of his last eight league goals have come in London derby matches, though the only London team he has never scored against is Arsenal.
Predicted XI
Ramsdale, Kiwior, Saliba, Gabriel, White, Rice, Odegaard, Jorginho, Martinelli, Havertz, Saka
Match Prediction
Arsenal 3-1 Brentford
How to Watch
The game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports with a kick-off time of 5:30 p.m. on Saturday 9th March 2024.
