According to transfer analyst Dean Jones, Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund star Donyell Malen this summer.
Following his transfer from PSV Eindhoven to Signal Iduna Park in 2021, the 25-year-old hasn’t exactly had the best of times in the German Bundesliga. Even though BVB were prepared to cash in on him in January, no one made a decisive move, and as a result, a transfer did not materialise for the Dutch attacker.
Malen, on the other hand, has been performing well lately, scoring six goals in his previous six games across all competitions. Apparently, Arsenal have taken notice of the forward’s recent form and expressed their interest to sign him this summer.
According to Jones’ report on GiveMeSport, Arsenal have identified Michael Olise, Pedro Neto and Nico Williams as potential targets in order to bolster their front line this summer.
The journalist asserts, however, that since all of the Gunners’ main targets are probably going to be expensive, they are positioning Malen as a less expensive alternative.
According to Jones, Arsenal want to see the attacker in action throughout the upcoming months in preparation for a possible summer transfer.
The journalist reports that Dortmund could be willing to cash in on him and take a fee of about £26 million, which would allow Arsenal to sign him for a reasonable amount.
Currently, Arsenal’s first-choice alternatives for playing on the wings are Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka. Leandro Trossard has been used by Mikel Arteta as a backup player for Martinelli, but he has mostly been utilised in midfield or as a false nine.
After Saka and Martinelli, Arsenal’s attacking options are limited. Getting a new winger would be the proper move, and Malen, who can play on both wings, would be a wise addition.
