Arsenal aim to fight off interest in Arteta’s assistant Carlos Cuesta from Norwich City and a number of other Championship clubs at the end of the current season.

Cuesta joined from Italian powerhouse Juventus in 2020. He has been touted as one of the top up-and-coming instructors and might be enticed by a managerial position after working with Arteta for the previous four seasons.

After an underwhelming campaign under David Wagner, Ben Knapper, the Canaries’ current sporting director, and former Arsenal loan manager, is reported to have the current Arsenal assistant at the top of their want list.

Norwich City still have an outside chance of making the playoffs, therefore Wagner is not considered to be under imminent threat, but an approach is expected after the season.

Carlos Cuesta began coaching for Athletico Madrid in 2014 when he was 18. Arsenal are resolved to fight any offers in the coming summer, and Arteta and Cuesta’s connection remains solid.

Especially because he has frequently been credited with the Gunners’ current makeover, which has seen them push for the crown, Cuesta’s tactical understanding has been vital in recent seasons and continues to be so.

Arteta has previously expressed his gratitude to his assistant, saying: ‘he helps me get better and better.’
