According to reports, Arsenal are set to compete with Man United and Chelsea’s summer transfer target after striking an agreement with Napoli star and Nigeria international Victor Osimhen.
This news comes as Mikel Arteta looks to resolve the Gunners’ goal-scoring problem. Arsenal currently have scored the least goals out of the top five, despite being strong candidates in the title race.
Spanish publication Nacional claims that Osimhen is the main candidate at Arsenal to fulfill their quest for a new striker as the Nigerian is determined to leave Napoli in the next transfer window.
After signing a contract extension in recent months, Osimhen has a release clause worth €130m (£112m) in his new deal and Arsenal is now his ‘most likely destination’.
Man United and Chelsea planned to pursue the striker but it is claimed that Arteta has ‘a verbal agreement for him to join Arsenal soon’.
Sports journalist Ben Jacobs recently claimed Chelsea could be at the “front of the queue” to sign Osimhen but that the three Premier League clubs won’t necessarily have “giant budgets” to spend in the summer.
Despite Jacobs comments, with the absence of Champions League football for Chelsea, Osimhen is destined to join the Gunners if they can finance the transfer.
