The Euro 2024 group stages have come to a close, some enthralling action along with some exciting upsets have made this tournament one to remember thus far. With the round of 16 around the corner, it’s time to take a look at how the Gunners representing their countries got on, and which of them will be progressing to the latter stages or going home!
Gunners going home:
Kieran Tierney / Scotland
5 – 1 vs Germany / 1 – 1 vs Switzerland / 0 – 1 vs Hungary
A very disappointing campaign for Scotland, who finished rock bottom of Group A with just one point. An equally disappointing Euros for Tierney who failed to play a full 90 minutes in any game for the Scotts, missing the final game altogether after picking up a thigh injury vs Switzerland.
Jakub Kiwior / Poland
2 – 1 vs Netherlands / 3 – 1 vs Austria / 1 – 1 vs France
Kiwior played every minute for Poland who also finished bottom of their group. Despite a surprising point against the French, overall a lackluster Euros for Poland who faced a tough task getting out of Group D.
Oleksandr Zinchenko / Ukraine
3 – 0 vs Romania / 1 – 2 vs Slovakia / 0 – 0 vs Belgium
Group E produced an extraordinary table which saw each team finish equal on four points, Ukraine and Zinchenko will feel hard done by to be going home on goal difference, as four points often sees a team progress.
Gunners Progressing:
Kai Havertz / Germany
5 – 1 vs Scotland / 2 – 0 vs Hungary / 1 –1 vs Switzerland
Havertz has had a magnificent tournament so far for Germany, playing in the centre forward role his best performance came in the opening game against Scotland as he picked up a goal and an assist.
Aaron Ramsdale / England
0 – 1 vs Serbia / 1 – 1 vs Denmark / 0 – 0 vs Slovenia
Ramsdale has yet to play a single minute for England with Everton’s Jordan Pickford still Gareth Southgate’s clear favorite No.1.
Declan Rice / England
0 – 1 vs Serbia / 1 – 1 vs Denmark / 0 – 0 vs Slovenia
Rice has come under criticism for his group stage performances by the media and former players. Despite that, he has played every minute so far for England (who topped Group C) and he will be hopeful he can help guide the nation all the way this year!
Bukayo Saka / England
0 – 1 vs Serbia / 1 – 1 vs Denmark / 0 – 0 vs Slovenia
We are yet to see the very best of Bukayo Saka at this tournament. The breathtaking 22-year-old has started every game for England so far and if he can find his best form in the knockout stages, he will give England a great chance of winning a first ever men’s Euros.
David Raya / Spain
3 – 0 vs Croatia / 1 – 0 vs Italy / 0 – 1 vs Albania
Spain are the only nation at this tournament with a 100% win record. David Raya featured in their final group game, keeping a clean sheet in the 1 – 0 victory over Albania.
William Saliba / France
0 – 1 vs Austria / 0 – 0 vs Netherlands / 1 – 1 vs Poland
Saliba is another Gunner to play every minute for their country so far at this Euros. France have yet to get going in this campaign and reach their full potential, however the dominate centre back has been as imposing as ever in defence.
Jorginho / Italy
2 – 1 vs Albania / 1 – 0 vs Spain / 1 – 1 vs Croatia
Italy finished 2nd in Group B behind the flawless Spain setting up a tie against Switzerland in the round of 16. Jorginho will expect to rediscover his form from Euro 2020 to help his country defend its title.
Leandro Trossard / Belgium
0 – 1 vs Slovakia / 2 – 0 vs Romania / 0 – 0 vs Ukraine
Trossard and Belgium have been somewhat underwhelming at this tournament, finishing 2nd in Group E, a group they would have been expected to win comfortably.
Which Arsenal player will progress the furthest at Euro 2024, and will we see a member of Mikel Arteta’s squad get their hands on gold in Europe this summer?
