Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has spoken about the burden of being a goal scorer after the Gunners 2-1 win away at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening.
When speaking to the Evening Standard, the Brazilian said. “I have been living with this [pressure] all my life — in Brazil with the national team, at [Manchester] City and now,” he said.
“I am close to 100 [goals] in the Premier League, that’s not easy! Then in the Champions League, I am scoring a lot, in the national team I score.”
When asked about why his goal-scoring is often under the spotlight and often a source of criticism, he said. “Sometimes, like I say, I am not focused on that (scoring goals) and that’s I think my mistake. So now, I think I change my mindset and I will be in the box more — and I try everything to score.”
“Always when I do this (keep my head up), I think it helps me a lot,” said Jesus. “I think it was more unlucky than a miss, but I keep trying.”
The 26-year-old has four goals and three assists in 17 Premier League appearances this season. Although he has only played 1099 minutes across those 17 games, which sees him average a goal contribution every 157 minutes.
Jesus’ contribution in Europe is without question, with an impressive four goals and two assists in five appearances in the Champions League. Across the five games
he has played 323 minutes, averaging a goal every 54 minutes.
